When we talk about the "color" or "shade" of our self tanners, we're referring to how dark of a tan you'll get by using that particular product.  We currently have 5 different shades (Light, Dark, Serum Dark, Ultra Dark and Extreme Dark).

Our Face Drops and Express Mousse are "customizable" shades.  That means you can adjust how dark or light they make you based on how long you leave them on for or how often you use them.

The main differences between our lotions and mousses are the texture and the color guide.  Our lotions have a thin, smooth consistency whereas our mousses have a fluffy, foamy texture to them.  Our mousses also have a color guide in them so you can see where you're applying them. 

The lotions have no color guide in them.  Both can be applied with the tanning mitt, smell amazing and  produce that gorgeous, natural-looking tan that Tanceuticals is known for!

To apply our products correctly, be sure to check out our "Application Tips" page found right here.  Applying self tanners can be a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a snap!

To get the best result from our self tanners, ideally you want to leave them on for 6-8 hours.  So applying them before going to bed is usually the best way to go.  That way, our self tanners will have time to give you a beautiful, natural glow and our cosmeceuticals will have time to do their thing.  If you're in a hurry, we do have an Express Mousse that can get you tan within 2 hours!

Although you can use a self tanner designed for the body on your face, we suggest using our specially-formulated face products. The skin on the face and neck area tends to be thinner, and more sensitive.

To account for this, our face self tanners are slightly thicker (like a face cream) and more moisturizing. They're also non-comedogenic, so they won't clog pores or cause acne.

Yes, the more you're in the pool/ocean, the quicker your tan will fade as the chlorine/salt will naturally exfoliate your skin.  So you may have to reapply it more often than usual.  Same thing goes with showering.  If you shower often and use an exfoliator, your tan will fade more quickly.

Our products should generally be used within 6 months of purchase.  Although they may last much longer, it's best to use them within that time frame for optimal results.  We don't use any harsh preservatives-- so our products aren't meant to sit on a shelf for years on end :)

None of our products are tested on animals.  In fact, we've been certified by PETA as Cruelty-Free since 2014.  You can look us up on their website :) 

As for ingredients, our pure and vegan-friendly formulas don’t contain anything harmful like Parabens, Mineral Oil, or Phthalates.

Yes, self tanning products are universally accepted as safe and effective by both the FDA and EMA (European Medicines Agency).  DHA, the main ingredient in all self tanners, has been approved for cosmetic use by the FDA since 1973 (a 50+ year track record!). 

In addition, a number of prestigious and well-respected medical organizations recommend self tanners over sun and tanning bed exposure.  Some of these organizations include the American Academy of Dermatology, Mayo Clinic, Skin Cancer Foundation and the American Medical Association.
